About Us
Sally Taylor - Founder of EP Hi, I'm Sally Taylor and I have been working in the communications business for more than 20 years, more recently running my own design & marketing company.

Over the years I have been working with businesses to develop awareness on environmental issues, so it makes sense to offer this expertise to all businesses and that is where this new initiative has sprung from.

Below is a video for you to view and further down on this page, an explanation about Environmental Population, but please do get in touch if you have any queries.

What is Environmental Population?

This initiative is about providing environmental information to SMEs (Small to Medium Enterprises); Climate Change, Biodiversity, Waste Management & Energy & Water Reduction? We see these words in the press every day now, but what do they mean & more importantly, what do they mean for our businesses? Environmental Population (EP) is a web portal to share best practice, provide understanding and help companies reduce costs & associated activities whilst helping them with their green agenda.

Aims

Environmental Population is a not-for-profit organisation; the charges are set so that it can pay for what it needs to through sponsorship which I am actively sourcing now as well as membership. Its main aim is to become the main web portal for environmental information.

Membership

The benefits of becoming a member are:
  • Access to a members area of web site
  • Inclusion into the directory
  • Access to artwork & survey templates (you?ll only need to add your logo & arrange for printing, sources your printer from out Business Directory)
  • Quarterly newsletter featuring news articles, projects & events
  • E-mail bulletins
  • Invitation to networking events & conferences
  • Opportunities to advertise in the directory, bulletins, web site & events.
Growth

I plan to role this out over the next couple of years, starting locally - Herts, Beds & Bucks then Mid Counties, East Anglia & Western Region ? and then Nationally - but wherever you are, I'd love to welcome you as a member or work with you if you decide you would like to get involved as a sponsor.

Information

Here is some information on how some businesses are developing their products and services to meet with their environmental concerns. These make me think and it may do the same for you too.
  • Heinz is reducing its steel in tins 0.02mm thinner which saves 1,400 tonnes of steel a year
  • M&S have a new sealing technology for their salad bags which improves the packs appearance & uses less material
  • Proctor & Gamble & Lever Broths are looking at concentrated washing powders as these use less packaging & are easier to carry!
  • Loose products are now available as self dispensing which gives the retailers & wholesales 30-60% savings which equates to a potential ?30-136K per 1 million units of pre-packs products from packaging materials, distribution and packaging recovery.
  • In 2005 Boots started using recycled PET for their Ingredients toiletries range & is now looking to introduce this into their Botanical range plus some food trays & packs.
  • All UK plastic is currently exported with the resultant recyclant imported back ? In Dec 2007 a new recycling plant in Dagenham will become the first food-grade recycling plant with the capacity to produce 12,000 tonnes of trays, punnets & bottles.
EMAP Advertising conducted a survey in March 2007 with 2,500 consumers into brand awareness with regard to environmental initiatives. Here are some of the results:
  • Only 14% of respondents said they didn't care whether a company is Green - that's 86% who do!
  • 17% mistrust those companies that promote themselves as "Green"
  • Adverts are the most trusted source of information
  • Behavioural change is driving attitudes to recycling with 40% of respondents having increased their recycling within the last 12 months. By recycling more, these respondents have changed their habits & are more aware & active having changed their behavioural patterns.
What do you want to do?
